August 6, 2007 - Elizabeth Allen
Elizabeth’s Success:
Being overweight is not something that Elizabeth ever had to think about until her mid twenties, and once she did start putting on weight she turned to diets. The diets and being sedentary didn’t help. She put on more weight. Ten years after her weight problem started she was resolved to finally lose the weight and get back the energy she had lost. Her husband supported and encouraged her and helped her find time to start exercising. She didn’t know much about fitness and turned to a personal trainer for guidance. The more she exercised and did strength training, the better she felt. She also began to pay more attention to what she was eating and found that it wasn’t that hard to eat healthier. Within 9 months she lost 60 pounds and nearly 20% body fat. She’s been working out ever since and is thrilled to have exceeded her goals and done more than she thought possible. |

Dr. Nick Yphantides

Nick’s Success:
Dr. Nick Yphantides was once the most obese physician in the United States weighting almost 500 pounds. He then had a bout with testicular cancer, which woke him up. Dr. Nick’s process to making life long changes was instigated once he realized, “Your have to change the way you see before you can change the way you look.” By taking a radical sabbatical, he turned his weight loss journey into an adventure and went on a cross-country pilgrimage. He used this time to “re-wire” his brain’s hardware and change his life. His biggest challenge was emotional eating. What he learned is food is fuel, not Valium on a plate, his best friend, or where he should turn in dealing with stress, anxiety, boredom or loneliness.
He now shares with his patients and all who visit his site lots of support, encouragement and accountability, as well as his knowledge from what he has learned along the way of losing 270 pounds and NOT finding it again. He has learned that anything short of true change is pointless. |

August 20, 2007 - Kathi Austin and Alan Davidson
Kathi’s Success:
Kathi lived to work, and the imbalance led to a decision to regain a healthier life balance that included a better exercise routine. She made a conscious effort to change by setting different priorities for her life and spending more time with friends, doing things that were for her and choosing a variety of exercises to support her love of running. It wasn’t easy and she says it is still a work in progress to stop living her work, but she now listens to what her heart, mind and body are telling her and she feels more connected and balanced.

Cindy Atkins
Cindy’s Success:
Cindy suffered an illness that helped her to see how important it was to take better care of herself and to pay attention to the ways she was putting out more than she could really give. She turned inward to face her situation and see that it was really all up to her to change what was draining her and create healthier boundaries. She discovered that by being herself and trusting her inner wisdom, she would get the answers. Even though it was a challenge to make the necessary changes, she persevered and found freedom in setting boundaries for herself and others. She now has a sense of what she needs, which includes more rest, a whole foods diet, cooking for enjoyment, visiting with friends and family, and hiking outdoors. She has developed healthy lifestyle practices for herself that are empowering and nurture her whole being. She is being herself and proud of what she has done.
