Getting Scared Into Change

Our guest is Charise Lindo
Featured in Fitness Magazine’s “I Did It” May 2007

Charise Lindo was deeply affected when two of her relatives had their legs amputated as a result of diabetes complications.  She had been overweight her whole life, hitting 235 pounds in her early twenties, and thought it was her destiny to be big. But she got scared by what happened to others in her family and decided to change that belief.

During the past three years she has changed her eating habits and incorporated consistent exercise into her life.  Not only has she lost weight and decreased her chances of becoming diabetic, but she is more confident in her ability to set goals and be successful.  She turned to books, magazines, seminars, trainers and her doctor for guidance, and learned that exercise affects every aspect of our health and mental well-being.  She has changed her mindset and discovered how to use her inner strength and to trust herself.

Coming Out of Hiding with Confidence

Our guest is Karen Kelly
Featured in Natural Health Magazine, June 2007

Karen Kelly was nicknamed “string bean” in grade school and was at a healthy weight going into her adult years.  Then things changed about 10 years ago, when at age 38, she started a promising new job that became a depressing nightmare.  Without realizing it she turned to food for her comfort and continued using food for many different reasons, which got worse after getting fired from her job.  Kelly found herself retreating from exercising, socializing, and decided to start a freelancing career from home where no one would see her.  She had gained 40 pounds in 18 months and another 20 in eight years, and she believed people would be horrified to see how much she had changed.

When a client stopped working with Karen because of her size, and she could see that her weight was putting her at risk for disease, the risks were adding up and she knew she had to do something.  Kelly started looking at her eating habits, and discovered she ate all the right things but did so in monstrous portions.  So with www.calorie-count.com and a food scale she learned what a healthy portion size was for her and was shocked to see she was eating three times more than she needed too.  She also committed to 45-60 minutes of exercise a day.  Alice and I invite you to listen to Karen story and here about her tremendous success!  For all women 40 and older Kelly wants you to know you can loose weight without crazy diets and pills.

Revitalized with Energy Awareness

Our guest is Debra Greene

Debra Greene once lived her life unhappily, in depression, and as a victim.  But as a result of her education and then learning about energy work, she became a vital, vigorous, vibrant being--seemingly overnight.  By paying attention to her “five bodies” and her energy health she was able to stop a downward pull of depression—the inertia, lack of energy and hopelessness that could overtake her.

She did this through her internal awareness using kinesiology, which she now uses in her practice. She has since been living a life of vitality for over 14 years.  Come listen to Debra’s story and hear how she used energy work to pull herself out of depression and hopelessness.

Ending a Family Dysfunction with Food

Our guest is Abby Ellin
Featured in Natural Health Magazine, June 2007

Abby Ellin learned growing up that “girls had to be thin.”  Her grandmother weighed her daily, her mother praised her for not eating, and her sister ate only mustard sandwiches.

The weigh-in routine was the same for all the women in her family.  Her mom would always immediately weigh herself after her daily run.  Then at grandma’s, her grandmother would be first to go on the scale; then it was Abby’s turn.  Grandma would peer over her shoulder and comment “Same as yesterday,” or “You’ve lost a pound.  Aren’t you happy?”  And Abby was.  But Abby was putting on some extra weight.  She never got obese, but she did get quite heavy, despite the zealous monitoring of the scale.

At age 16 Abby decided to attend a 'Fat Camp to loose some weight.  She was able to loose 15 pounds and came home to an elated family that was proud of her and a Grandma excited to have a skinny grand daughter.  She learned really fast that home was not the same as camp and quickly devised a plan of dieting for three days and then getting one free food day, this dieting cycle lasted for years. Abby got bored years later with thinking about food all the time and decided she wanted to change.  Hear how Abby was able to break the generational cycle of dieting, her obsession with food and forgiveness.

Overcoming Overeating Painlessly

Our guest is Mary Bolster
Editor’s Letter in Natural Health Magazine, June 2007

Mary Bolster began obsessing about her weight in high school as her figure filled out with curves.  She felt self conscious about the changes of becoming a young woman, and she struggled to get back to her tomboyish body.  She says this was the beginning of her weird eating habits that led to extreme fasting and out-of-control bingeing that went on throughout her twenties and into her thirties.

While she never became bulimic or even grossly overweight, she suffered from severe overeating and horrible dieting experiences.  In her mid thirties she found them so painful and disruptive, she began looking for help.  Her approach was self-help books, but the first few she picked up were focused on women struggling with abuse and self hatred and this wasn’t her issue.  But when she read Overcoming Overeating by Carol Munter and Jane Hirschmann, she found herself and the answer she was looking for.  She discovered that she was an emotional eater and how to address her emotions instead of eating them.  Hear how she still keeps her eating under control.
